You Gotta Be Kidding!

I get feeds from certain “bookish” groups and organizations. Today, I got one that had me busting out laughing. Posting was this indie author who admonished other indie authors to “listen” to their books when working through the self-editing process, and, more, that indie authors should get editorial help, even PAID editorial help if necessary. And I totally agree. I also think that READING THE BOOK ALOUD is imperative, and I certainly DO wish this individual had emphatically added that it really PAYS to get skilled, educated, expert outside eyes to LOOK at the manuscript before the author even thinks of hitting the PUBLISH button over on Lightning Source or on CreateSpace. You see, the particular “authority” who was so admonishing us, also self-publishes novels, and every one I’ve seen is filled with every imaginable grammatical error. It’s too obvious that, while extolling the virtues of the editorial process, this individual hesitates to take heed of her own advice.
